Several ASRT Foundation Celebration Campaign donors have created new opportunities for ASRT members while supporting the growth of current programs. Donations from Siemens, Toshiba, Weber State University and others have created programs exclusively for ASRT members offering awards that are not available to any other professional community.

Siemens created the Siemens Education Journey Award, a program that offers three ASRT members $4,000 each to cover the expenses of attending an educational conference. The R.T.s will be given an opportunity to learn from the experience and the expertise of others in the profession. The recipients of the Siemens award will be announced this spring.

Siemens also donated $25,000 to help send teams of R.T.s to medically underserved communities around the globe and to improve patient care through education and facility evaluations. Teams will teach local health care professionals best practices for using medical imaging equipment and how to protect patients and themselves from ionizing radiation. The teams also will identify equipment and training needed for the hospital or clinic to become a better health care provider.

Toshiba America Medical Systems’ gift created and funded the Safety FiRsT program, an initiative that awarded two safety-improvement grants of $7,000 each to facilities in Wyoming and Minnesota. The program, designed to improve safety for R.T.s., was featured in the December/January ASRT Scanner article “Putting Safety First.”

The Weber State University Department of Radiologic Sciences Student Global Engagement Scholarship, created via a $50,000 donation, helps students study abroad. Weber State University created the scholarship to help students expand their knowledge and understanding of world cultures and global issues. It is a scholarship unlike any other the Foundation has been able to offer.

Siemens, Toshiba America Medical Systems and Weber State University are among the donors that have chosen to create their own awards through donations to the Celebration Campaign. The ASRT Foundation thanks all its partners for underwriting existing programs and providing new grants and awards for safety, research and continuing education while helping to create a strong sense of community among radiologic technologists and radiation therapists.
