You may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award; however, you program of study must remain related to a career in the radiologic sciences. Scholarships are not intended to assist and R.T. in switching career, including becoming a physician assistant or radiologist.

How are scholarship recipients selected?

An independent panel, the Scholarship Review Committee, evaluates applications and assigns scores to each section of the application based on standardized criteria. The combined scores are ranked, and recipients are recommended to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

All awards are based on a combination of academic/professional achievements, essay content, financial need and professional recommendation.

How will I know whether I'm selected to receive a scholarship?

All applicants are notified via email by May 15. Past experience indicates that emails sometimes are not received or are unsuccessfully delivered. Make sure you add [email protected] to your email address book or “safe senders list” so these important messages are not sent to your junk mail folder.

Be certain to provide the email address you check most often. If you are selected as an award recipient, you will be required to confirm the award. You will be sent an Award Offer email from the AcademicWorks system and you will be required to log into your account to formally accept the award.

Your email address will only be used to communicate with you about your scholarship applications or other opportunities for which you may be eligible to apply.

When are scholarship checks issued?

Checks will be mailed to each recipient’s school address provided during the recipient during the post-acceptance process. The recipient will need to provide this information in order to accept the award. It is important that this information is accurate.

Checks will be made payable to the institution only. It is your responsibility to notify the ASRT Foundation should the check not arrived within 30 days of the issue date.

Scholarship funds used exclusively for the payment of tuition and textbooks are normally not taxable. As a scholarship recipient, you are responsible for taxes, if any, that may be assessed against your scholarship award. We recommend consulting your tax advisor for more guidance.

What programs qualify as an accredited program?

Most radiography programs receive accreditation through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. In some cases, however, the Registry allows students who graduated from regionally accredited programs to sit for the radiography exam. Further accreditation information is available on the ARRT website.

I applied to more than one school. Which one do I list on the application?

List your first choice on the application. If you are chosen to receive an award, you will have a chance to change your school when you accept the award.

Why do I have to graduate after September 1 to qualify?

The purpose of our scholarship program is to help students earn a certificate or degree; therefore, scholarship funds are for tuition, fees and other expenses related to completing the educational program. Scholarship awards are made out to the school to be credited to the student’s account. We do not have any loan forgiveness programs at this time.

What are the citizenship requirements for receiving a scholarship?

Our entry-level scholarships are based on the same criteria the U.S. government uses for federal student aid. You must be one of the following to receive federal student aid: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident who has a I-151, I-551 or I-551C (alien registration receipt card). Individuals with a visitor, student or G-series visa are ineligible. For more information on how the U.S. government classifies non-citizens, please visit their web page on Federal Student Aid.

All applicants must meet the ASRT membership requirement. However, we cannot issue funds to any school outside of the United States at this time.

I live outside the United States. Can I apply for a scholarship?

We have limited resources and, therefore, must be extremely targeted with our scholarship and grant programs. Currently, we are focused on recruiting and retaining talented radiation therapy and medical imaging professionals in the United States.

Please contact the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for information on possible assistance for international students.
